Once upon a time, there was a king and queen who lived in a castle in Savanna, Illinois. Say what? I thought Castle were a European thing! Nope! The Havencrest Castle is just a short drive away from us! An artist and his wife bought a house off the Mississippi River in Illinois and decided to turn it into their castle. Originally 22 rooms, with a little construction and lots of noise, the couple expanded to over 60 rooms over 20 years later. Why did they need all this space, for their art. These two love birds bonded over art and filled their home with everything they made. The queen passed before it was complete, but her husband said their love continues even through they are separated. All the clocks strike 3:00pm because that’s the time they got married and there are many clocks throughout the castle. The love never dies at the Havencrest Castle.
So why do we care? After being closed to the public for some time, the castle is reopening. Every weekend in October this Castle is open to the public for tours and more. It looks like a fun way to bring in fall.
