Props to Officer Hanes of the Oxnard, CA. This is a officer and his partner stopped when they saw some neighborhood kids skateboarding. The kids thought that they were in trouble…but they weren’t.
As luck would have it, when Officer Hanes got out of his cruiser, he asked for a board from one of the kids. Unbeknownst to the kids, Officer Hanes is an amateur skater and showed them a bit of what he could do. You gotta check this out.
Officer Hanes is a great example of why those who carry the mantra “To Protect and Serve” are actually good stewards of our communities. He made these kids comfortable with the local police…and he showed them a thing or two about how to Heelflip like a pro!

Skateboarding is not a crime... Officers Fessler and Hames took a few minutes in between calls to visit with a few of our neighborhood kids, who first thought they were in trouble for skateboarding. Their only crime was not knowing that Officer Hames was formerly an amateur skateboarder for about ten years, with wins at skateboard contests throughout California, including the California Skate Championships for his age group. With over 20 sponsors, Officer Hames was on the verge of going pro...but we are glad he ended up with the OPD Family! • • • Let’s remember to use our helmets while we are cruising’ the streets on our skateboards #opdconnecting #skateboard #kickflip #lesm #communitypolicing
