As of the first of July, IDOT let everyone know that there is an expansion of the “Move Over Slow Down” law, that basically says just that, when you see flashing lights on any vehicle. This means all vehicles, not just fire, police and safety/IDOT. The flashing lights on any vehicle is an indication there is trouble, so move over and slow down. Pretty simple, right? If…you are paying attention.
In this case, you can see what happens when someone doesn’t pay attention. IDOT caught this one on I-235 in Des Moines. You can tell this driver wasn’t paying attention. No one was hurt, thankfully.
With the "Move over, slow down" law expanding as of July 1 to include all vehicles with flashing lights, this video from one of our I-235 cameras shows how quickly things can go wrong when you aren't paying attention/moving over. Amazingly, no one was seriously injured.
