With all the horror stories of retail malls closing and losing anchor stores (see Westland Mall in Burlington), there are number of options that property managers who own these malls. Some have decided to make the closed/covered malls into outdoor malls that allow for customers to go from store to store by walking outside, plus it allows the retailer to handle their own power management (i.e. heating, air and water.). Then there are some who decide to tear them down and make the land available for development. There are others who have chosen to leave them vacant and deteriorate.
However, there is one management group who has decided to double down the indoor mall concept and kick the idea up to notches unknown in the USA. It is actually a concept being used in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Japan. We already have seen what the Mall of America has to offer: retail galore, dining of all kinds and an amusement park. But nothing like this.
What is being planned in Miami is more than any mall we have seen in the this country. It’s called American Dream…and from the sound of it, that is exactly what it will be. It is planned to be a mega-mall and family entertainment destination
The details of the mall:
- It is planned to be the largest mall in the USA
- They are planning for a 14,000 employees
- A ski slope (yes, in Miami)
- Amusement park
- Pool with a beach (even though they are bordered by water in Miami)
