Grab the tissue… this one might hurt.
A French police officer, Lt. Col. Arnaud Beltrame, died on Friday … and he did so in one of the most heroic ways I’ve ever heard.
ISIS terrorists took hostages at a local supermarket in France and Arnaud was responding to the situation.
In a moment of sheer bravery and fearlessness, Arnaud sacrificed himself to the terrorist in exchange for a woman hostage. As he was entering the supermarket, he was shot in the neck.
Authorities say Lt. Col. Beltrame had his cell phone on a connected call while he was going into the store, so he could record the conversations with the gunman. When the other police officers heard gunshots, they stormed the supermarket and killed the gunman.
Interior Minister Gérard Collomb said, “France will never forget his heroism, his bravery, his sacrifice.”
His brother, Cedric, said, “He gave his life for strangers. He must have known that he didn’t really have a chance. If that doesn’t make him a hero, I don’t know what would.”
What’s amazing here, is that this is nothing new to Lt. Col. Arnaud Beltrame. While he served in the French military, he received several awards for his extraordinary bravery.
Lt. Col. Arnaud Beltrame lived a hero and died one as well… may he rest in peace.
