Get rid to pull on the heart strings
John Dickhout from Ontario recently suffered a heart attack and was the waiting list for heart transplant.
On the other end of the spectrum, 22 year old Adam Prashaw died of seizure a few years ago. John was selected to receive Adam’s heart and, thankfully, underwent successful heart transplant surgery.
Now, in order to thank Adam and his family, John completed his first ever 10k race with his new heart in the Prashaw’s hometown.
“I wanted to let my donor family know how much this gift meant to me and my family,” John said.
Rick Prashaw, Adam’s father, was there at the finish line waiting for John to cross. Rick says the decision to give Adam’s heart to John was incredibly easy because Adam would have wanted that, no matter what.
It’s an incredibly touching story, one that I think, means so much to the Prashaw family because they still see a little glimpse of life in Adam living through John.
