The next Town Meeting of the Des Moines County Historical Society is April 17, 2012. The subject will be the Indian attack on Old Fort Madison during the War of 1812 by Sac and Fox leader Black Hawk. This year marks the 200th anniversary of Iowa’s only involvement in that war with Britain. The presentation will be given by Dr. Eugene Watkins the director of Old Fort Madison. He will discuss the importance of the fort’s activities during the War of 1812 and place those events into the context of the wider war, as well touch upon some of the new information that has been uncovered over the past few years.
The Town Meeting will be held in the Burlington Public Library, 210 Court St. , Burlington, Ia. Beginning at 7:00 P. M.. April 17, 2012.
