Great River Hospice is looking for additional volunteers to help meet the needs of people at end-of-life and their families in Des Moines, Henry, Lee, and Louisa counties.
A four-part training is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. on October 1, 8, 15, and 22 at Wapello Community Ambulance, 400 Highway 61 S, Wapello, IA. Hospice volunteers may work with patients and their families in their homes or at Great River Hospice House. They also can help the program in many other ways, such as providing companionship to patients, running errands for families, doing clerical work, and planning fundraisers.
People interested in volunteering must pass a criminal background check and be at least 16 years old. Registration and completion of application materials are required before the training begins. Volunteers with previous hospice training also are encouraged to join the Great River Hospice team. Only an orientation is required.
