Canines Gather to Support the American Cancer Society
The Bark For LifeTM of Des Moines County will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013. The American Cancer Society Bark For LifeTM is a Canine Event to Fight Cancer. The event is sponsored in part by Absolute Transportation Services, Inc. of Burlingtonand is hosted by the Relay For Life team Purple Paws for the Cause.
The event will be held around the LakeStarkerat CrapoParkin Burlington, Iowain conjunction with the 2nd Annual Relay For Life 5K Walk/Run through the Park. The event will feature both human and canine cancer survivors. Sandy Woodsmall, Burlingtonresident, is the honorary human survivor of breast cancer. Missy Mae, a 6-year-old miniature schnauzer is the honorary canine survivor (melanoma). They will be leading the kick off lap at 9:15 amaround the lake.
Laps will continue through 11:15 am. For each completed lap, the human/canine team will receive a door prize chance increasing their odds of winning one of 24 baskets filled with Relay gear and human and canine treats. At 10 am, participants may enter the canine/human Talent Show which will feature tricks by one or both of the entrants. At 10:30 ama Best Dressed Show will feature costumes and apparel displayed by the human/canine pairs. Awards will be presented to the most popular for each event.
Participants may download registration forms for both Bark For Life and the Relay 5K Walk/Run at www.relayforlife.org/desmoinescountyia. Registration for Bark For Life is $10 per human/canine team and for the 5K Walk/Run is $20 for adults, $10 for youth under 16 and $10 for cancer survivors.
All funds raised at Bark For Life and Relay 5K Walk/Run by sponsors, participants and donors will be included in the 2013 Relay For Life of Des Moines County being held from Noonto Midnighton September 21st at GreatRiverMedicalCenterin West Burlington.
