Mitch King offers “extra heartbeat” football academy
Burlington native and former University of Iowa football standout, Mitch King, has created a football camp for student athletes grades six through 12. “The Extra Heartbeat Football Academy” will be held at the Burlington Regional RecPlex in Burlington, Iowa from Monday June 10th through Wednesday, June 12th. Cost for the two-and-a-half-day event is $150.
“The Extra Heartbeat FootballAcademy” will empower young men to become positive and disciplined student athletes by modeling character and commitment. Academy coaching staff will include former Iowa Hawkeye greats Mitch King, James Vandenberg, Brad Banks, Albert Young, Abdul Hodge, Lance Tillison and other well-known football standouts.
Mitch King’s “The Extra Heartbeat” football academy is a not-for-profit organization. One student athlete attending the camp will be awarded a scholarship with the camp proceeds.
Additionally, the first-ever “Southeastern Shootout” 7-on-7 passing tournament will be held on Monday, June 10th at the Burlington Regional RecPlex. This will be a one day team event for students entering 9th through 12th grades. Entry fee for the shootout is $300 per team.
"I have always wanted to be able to give back and help kids get the opportunity I was afforded through football. I not only want to teach them skills of the game, but show them what hard work and good character can do for you off the field as well,” says King regarding the creation of the academy.
