The Des Moines County Historical Society will conduct a Town Meeting on January 15, 2013, starting at 7:00 PM in the Burlington Public Library, 210 Court Street, Burlington, Iowa.

All Town Meetings are FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

The evenings’ program is titled “Stories Untold: Preserving the Old Danville Cemetery.”

A presentation by Joy Lynn Conwell will address the ongoing efforts on the

research, recovery, and restoration of the Old Danville Congregational Church Cemetery.

The Danville Congregational Church was founded in 1839.  Conwell is a direct

descendant the Abiram Gaylord, brother of Danville Congregational church’s first minister,

Rev. Reuben Gaylord, who was a member of the Iowa Band,

whose efforts established the Congregational movement in Iowa and was one of the

founders of Grinnell College.  Persons with records, stories, pictures or other memorabilia

related to the Danville Congregational Church and its cemetery are invited to bring

the materials with them to share.  Conwell will share the known family history

of those currently confirmed as being buried at the cemetery and will have handouts available.

Maps will also be available to how to access the cemetery for viewing.  Persons interested

in helping in the restoration, physically or financially, are also invited to attend.
