Volunteers are gearing up to provide the 18th annual Community Free Thanksgiving Dinner at Burlington High School on Thanksgiving Day.
A complete traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, gelatin salads and fruit pies will be served free to all who attend the come-as-you-are dinner, which will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 22 in the high school cafeteria.
For free transportation to the dinner or to arrange home delivery of a meal, contact Community Action of Southeast Iowa at 753-0193.
Food donations of fruit pies and gelatin salads should be taken to the high school cafeteria between 3 and 6 p.m. Nov. 21. Donations of canned cranberry sauce, apple juice, corn and green beans should be dropped off at the Burlington Public Library, 210 Court St., or Burlington Eye Center, 580 Roosevelt Ave., before Nov. 20.
Turkeys must be purchased at the Hy-Vee store on Agency street, where they will be prepared, and 130 are needed.
Anyone wishing to collect food donations in local schools, businesses or churches is asked to call Community Action at 753-0193 so that information can be coordinated with other community efforts.
Volunteers are needed. Anyone wishing to volunteer should call the public library at 753-1647 to sign up for a specific time to work.
