Electric Line Work to Close Mississippi River Bridge Morning of Oct. 22
Bridge closed from 9 a.m.–noon to allow electric transmission line work
The Mississippi River bridge connecting Fort Madison and Niota will be closed to traffic between 9 a.m. and noon on Monday, Oct. 22 to allow crews from ITC Midwest LLC (ITC) to perform maintenance on an electric transmission line that runs along the span.
The 69-kilovolt (kV) line is one of two electric transmission lines installed along the bridge. Crews will need to close the bridge to make repairs on a lightning arrestor, a piece of equipment that helps protect the line in the event of a lightning strike.
While the bridge is closed, drivers will need to take an alternate route to cross the river. ITC estimates the bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. until noon, but the bridge will open before noon if repairs can be completed prior to that time.
