The Mahoney Cousins
A local favorite from Quincy, IL! The Mahoney Cousins is an amalgam of the Mahoney Brothers and Hard Boiled Mahoney & still anchored by the lead vocals and harp of Carson Gay. The addition of the scorching guitar work of Scottie Kuncewicz plus Kevin Helmick on bass and Stan Jansen on drums are all reasons that folks in the area have taken note. If you missed these guys at ROR’s 2011 Fall Fundraiser or the 2012 Cajun Cook-off, don’t miss them here!
The Pain Killers
2012 Iowa Blues Challenge winners, the Pain Killers will represent Iowa in the 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Just like the name says, they are here to kill the pain! Formed in January 2012 in Des Moines, IA consisting of Jeff Banks on vocal & guitar, Jon Locker on bass and George McCutchen on drums and doing mostly original songs, this band has one simple philosophy — LET THE MUSIC SPEAK FOR ITSELF!
Demetria Taylor (Visit her website.)
Hailing from Chicago, Demetria is the daughter of late Blues legend Eddie Taylor, Sr. and has been influenced by the listening to Etta James, Bessie Smith, Big Momma Thornton and most importantly, Koko Taylor. Demetria won Female Blues Vocalist Award of the year 2012 and has also been nominated for “Best New Debut Artist”.
The Nighthawks (Visit their website.)
The Nighthawks are a long time “work-every-night band” who never knew there were rules against mixing blues, R&B, honky-tonk, country, doo-wop, gospel and rockabilly into one delicious stew. Their CD “Last Train to Bluesville” won Acoustic Album of the Year at the Blues Foundation’s Blues Music Awards in Memphis in 2011.
