Old Fort Madison is hosting a military heritage weekend on Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1. The Old Fort will be displaying original clothing, equipment and weapons dating from about 1765 until today. Some of the items displayed include an 1809 United States contract musket, Thompson submachine guns, an early 1960s M16, World War II clothing and equipment and two captured Nazi flags. In addition, there will be demonstrations of War of 1812, Civil War, and World War II weapons as well as comparisons of uniforms, equipment and living conditions in the field at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can also learn about local native culture in the 18th and early 19th centuries and see an authentic Woodland Indian wigwam. The Old Fort will be open 9:00 to 5:00 Saturday and Sunday.
