When you go out to eat, how much do you tip? 5%? 10%? 20%? A lot of that may have to do with what generation you belong to.
Just a hint, but if you are millenial, the service industry may not be so happy to serve you. According to a new study by CreditCards.com, they have learned that Millenials are more likely to drop a 13% tip, if they tip at all. Specifically, only 10% of millenials tip, period.
To give some perspective on this:
Millenials (ages 18-37) 15% leave a tip
Gen-Xers (ages 38-53) leave 20% or more
Boomers (ages 54-72) leave 17-18%
Silent Generation (ags 73+) leave 20% or more.
So why is this happening? There are a number of theories. One is that millenials, while employed, aren’t making a lot or even getting raises. Another theory is that millennials are very willing to pay for expensive, but because of the cost, aren’t willing to add a gratuity.
