We have the Cardinals, Blue Jays and Orioles. Now we can add The Seattle Mariners to that list.
Yesterday was opening day at Target Field in Minneapolis for the Twins, who were taking on the Seattle Mariners. As part of the opening ceremony, during the National Anthem, someone in their infinite wisdom thought it would be a great idea to release a bald eagle, named Challenger, into the stadium to really make the National Anthem even more Patriotic than it already is. Problem with this is a bald eagle is a WILD ANIMAL and a PREDATOR.
After all, what could go wrong?
Mariners pitcher, Jason Paxton being attacked by the National Bird of the USA. While the bird was probably scared, it isn’t like Jason instigated the bird. It flew into the field and it just so happened that Jason was the unfortunate recipient of a bald eagle attempting to land on his shoulder with talons extended for maximum perching ability.
Take a look:
Jason took it like a champ. Even the handler said he dealt with the situation better than anyone in his position would. Maybe it was a stroke of good luck for Jason Paxton has he pitched a 5-inning shutout, despite the team’s 4-3 against the Twins.
