We all know Dustin Lynch’s “Small Town Boy”. The song was #1 for 4 weeks. It even made the ringtone charts, as one of the most downloaded for a week or 2. Believe it or not, this song almost never happened.
According to Rhett Akins, who wrote the song (yes, Thomas Rhett’s father), he wrote the song and tried to record it, but hated the way it sounded. As with most songs in Nashville, every song it up for grabs by another artist. That artist was Dustin Lynch.
Because most music in Nashville is produced by someone who has the “golden ear”, Dustin saw the song and did a recording of it, which didn’t sound right. The producer told him to sing it while laying on a couch. The reason, to sound drunk.
And as they say, The rest is history.
