First off, watch this:
This video has been traveling the internet for the past few days…and it looks amazing. It is the new Boeing 737 Max taking off at an airshow at a 90 degree angle. The question that is linger out there…is it for real?
According to the internet authority on fact-finding on such things, Snopes, the truth about this plane taking off at a 90 degree angle is “UNPROVEN”. Here is why:
- While the plane is empty of passengers and luggage, jets of this size are able to do a lot more because they aren’t weighted down.
- This video from 2016 Farnborough International Airshow is a place where planes are pushed to do things they would not do with passengers on board. So when Boeing was asking if this plane could IN FACT take off at at 90 degree angle, they refused to answer that question.
- AskThePilot.com came out and said it is unlikely, but the camera angles can make the plane appear to make the climb at 90 degrees. While the plane may be close to that, they highly doubt that the jet is able to make such a climb.
Now those are a few things to think about, when you watch the above video.
So what do you think? Did it happen or not?
