Living in the Midwest, having a frozen lake isn’t that unusual of an idea. After a while, you decide (the more North you go) the better chance of traveling by foot across the ice is logical. Some people ice fish, some play hockey, others ice skate.
After a while, the water source has been frozen for a while and you can bring a snow mobile on the ice, but you wait a while before you bring a car, truck, van or SUV on the ice, but do you want to be the first to do it.
Well….in Winnebago County, WI, there was one person who had a “hold my beer” moment…and it didn’t turn out so well. As you can see, the genius de jour wanted to be the first to drive across Lake Butte des Mort on Tuesday with disastrous results.
According to the sheriff’s department:
“Early ice is unsafe and unforgiving. We know there are many of you out there…and we know most of you out there will be just fine. Ice thickness is varying right now, and it can be deceiving with the fresh snow.”
With winter weather eventually coming to our area, think before you decide to be “THAT GUY”.
In all seriousness, it is dangerous and you could lose your life. It isn’t worth it.
