It is common around our area of SW Iowa, Western Illinois and Northern Missouri to see American flags flying with pride, next to the state flag of your respective home. So, are you having an issue with not getting many Hummingbirds coming to visit your home?
I know, it sounds like a weird question, but actually, this may be a factor, if your hummingbird feeder is feeling a bit lonely. Seems as though, according to a recent reader of the column “Dear Joan” if you have a Canadian flag in your yard, you will attract more Hummingbirds.
I have to admit, i love Canada. Canadian people are so friendly and their country is absolutely beautiful. But something tells me that this has nothing to do with these hummingbirds wanting to “resist” or “take a knee”. No, they area actually, attracted to the color red which, of course, is one of 2 colors on the Canadian Flag.
So before you start searching Google for where to buy a Canadian flag and catching flack for flying one in your yard (unless, of course, you are of Canadian descent), you may just want to put more red things in your yard, or hang a large red cloth near your hummingbird feeder. This way you will attract more of the tiny birds and come the envy of the neighborhood, rather than “that Canuck next door”.
Just a helpful hint from Steve…and Dear Joan.
