Imagine winning $6 million. You would be excited, you would want to tell your spouse, your loved ones, tell your friends, think about quitting your job, etc.
But…one guy didn’t do that.
No, he decided to break up with his common-law wife 5 days after he won a Canadian Lottery jackpot of $6 million.
Here’s the problem, he knew of the winnings before he told his significant other…oh ya, they have kids, as well.
You see, as the common-law wife was moving out, she learned, through acquaintances that her, now, ex had quit his job. Upon learning that tid-bit of info, she went to her local lawyer and had them issue a stay of the winnings. She is claiming half of the booty.
Now, before you call foul on either of these 2, here is what the “wife’s” claim is. They had lived together for 2 years and they regularly bought lottery tickets. Going so far as to text back and forth that one of the 2 had picked up the tickets that night. So, it isn’t like his earnings is something he did, as a recreational thing for himself. It is something “they” did “together.
As to how this will play out: in the USA and in Canada, it will most likely get settled out of court, but if it doesn’t, chances are there will be more in the media about it and I will be adding to this story later.
