We live on the Mighty Mississippi and we see barges travel up and down the river every day. Some are loaded full, others are sans cargo. Either way, it is still magnificent to see. Which brings me to the what if question.
What if you lived on the river (or in this case, the Atlantic Ocean) and saw tiny boats scurry out of the way, as an out of control shipping boat came directly toward you with mechanical problems? Oh, and by the way, it, at one point, if pointed toward your backyard.
Well, this did happen in Southport (just outside of Wilmington, NC). The ship had mechanical problems and went careening into shallow water and ran aground, while a little boat quickly moved out of the way. Have a look at footage from someone’s backyard cam.
Mechanical problems caused a ship to run aground in the Cape Fear River yesterday afternoon. Footage of the incident was captured on a security camera.

You know those boats out there are not happy that this guy took their prime fishing spot….
