Over the weekend, my family was watching the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and my 5 years old looked at me and ask “Daddy, what happens to the animals at the zoo?” and I was honest, I didn’t know, so I did what any good father would do…I asked Google and what I learned was very interesting. My daughter was the only one asking that question.
According to a number of articles, the animals stay the zoo. While that may sound cruel, it is actually a much better thing for them, as transporting most animals may be so stressful that it could kill them. If they stayed in the zoo, but in higher elevation areas, where they had familiar smells and people around them, they had a higher rate of survival.
